Welcome to the LTSD Band Parent Family!
We are so excited to have you! When your child first brings home an instrument, it can be a little overwhelming... but help is available! Whether you have experience playing an instrument or not, you will play a major role in this part of your child's well-rounded education. They will need your support and encouragement, especially during the first two years! My biggest piece of advice is to "trust the process." Learning to play an instrument does not happen overnight, or in a month, or even in a year... it is an ongoing process that requires perseverance. Don't be surprised if the first time they play "Mary Had a Little Lamb" it doesn't sound quite right... they will get there in their own time with a little practice! In the meantime, they reap the benefits of language development, critical and creative thinking, physical coordination, social engagement, cognitive development, emotional awareness, personal discipline, self-confidence, and teamwork!
Please reach out to me if you have any questions at any time, I am happy to help in any way possible :D

Private Lessons:
Although this is definitely not a requirement to be a part of the band program, students are encouraged to take weekly private lessons on their instrument. Private lessons help your child have a better start on the instrument and experience success/growth at a faster pace. If you are interested in private lessons, please contact Ms. Brumbaugh to get in touch with a private teacher for your instrument.
